Kevin G. Drendel

Drendel (Partner) is a 1982 graduate of Cornell Collegecum laude, and a 1991 graduate of Northern Illinois University College of Lawmagna cum laude.  While at Northern Illinois University, he was a member of the Law Review, and published an article in the University’s scholarly (NIU Law Review 73, 1990).  He also received the West Publishing Award for Outstanding Scholastic Achievement.  He is admitted to practice in front of all Illinois State Courts. Kevin is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association and the Kane County Bar Association. Kevin was a director of the Kane County Bar Association (1999-2000), the Sec/Treasure (2000-2001), 1st Vice President (2002-2003) and President  (2003-2004).  He is the past Chair of the Local Government Law Committee and has served on the Estate & Probate, Website, Membership, Judicial Evaluation, Appellate Practice and the Delivery of Legal Services Committees and the Kane County Bar Foundation.

Kevin is also a member of the Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley Council of Professional Advisers and of the Fox Valley Estate Planning Council. Kevin is a member of the Board of Directors of the Fox Valley Music Foundation and the North Aurora Lion’s Club. In addition, Kevin is a member of the Christian Legal Society, the Illinois Municipal League and the Illinois Institute for Local Governmental Law. He is a past member and secretary of the Illinois Chapter of the National Association of Telecommunication Officials & Advisers. He is the General Legal Counsel for the Village of North Aurora and City of Batavia.

Lawrence W. Lobb

048Lawrence W. Lobb was born in Michigan in 1968. He graduated from Wayne State University, cum laude (Phi Beta Kappa) in 1994, the University of Toledo College of Law in 1997, and New York Institute of Technology (MBA) with distinction in 2006.  He has earned mediation certificates from Northwestern University.  While in law school, Larry served as an intern for the Hon. David A. Katz and the Hon. James G. Carr of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio. He also worked in the Child and Family Abuse Bureau of the Office of the Wayne County (Detroit) Prosecuting Attorney as the Supervising Intern.

He is admitted to practice before all Illinois and Michigan State Courts, as well as District Courts in the Northern District of Illinois, Central District of Illinois, and Eastern District of Michigan. In 2006, he was admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court.

Larry is a member of the Kane County Bar Association, Illinois Bar Association, State Bar of Michigan, the American Bar Association, and the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys.  He is the past-Chair of the Kane County Bar Association’s Public Relations Committee and is a member of several of its committees including its Residential and Commercial Real Estate Committee. Larry has become a frequent lecturer at the KCBA continuing legal education seminars and was named the 2011 Outstanding New Lawyer by the Kane County Bar Association. He is currently an officer on the on KCBA’s Board of Managers and will serve as its President for the 2016-2017 term.

Edward J. Boula, III

Edward J. Boula, III was born in Downers Grove, Illinois, in October of 1986. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Northern Illinois University, graduating summa cum laude and with University Honors. Edward returned to Northern Illinois University for law school where he graduated magna cum laude and served as Lead Articles Editor of the Northern Illinois University Law Review. In law school, Edward had the privilege of working as an Assistant Clerk for Justice Hudson in the Illinois Appellate Court, Second District, and as a Judicial Extern for Judge Kapala in the Federal Court, Northern District of Illinois. He spent his final semester of law school at the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office where he prosecuted misdemeanor offenses. Edward joined the Drendel & Jansons Law Group after spending three years with a well-respected law firm in central Illinois. During his short tenure in central Illinois, Edward was the President of the Morgan County Bar Association in 2015.

Edward is admitted to practice in all Illinois state courts, the Northern and Central Districts of the United States District Courts of Illinois. He is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association and the Kane County Bar Association where he currently serves as Chair of the Local Government Committee.

Carolyn D. Jansons

068Carolyn D. Jansons (Partner) was born in Columbus, Ohio, in September of 1974. She is a 1996 graduate of Northern Illinois University and a 2001 graduate of Northern Illinois University College of Law, magna cum laude. She graduated seventh (7th) in her class from Northern Illinois University College of Law and was a member of the Law Review. She is admitted to practice in front of all Illinois State Courts and was admitted to the Bar of the United States Supreme Court in 2006. Carolyn D. Jansons has recently been honored as one of the Top 100 Family Lawyers in Illinois by the American Academy of Legal Advocates.

Carolyn is a member of the Kane County Bar Association and the Illinois State Bar Association.  In 2012, she was elected to serve on the Board of Directors of the Kane County Bar Association for a three-year term.  Carolyn has served as the Chair of the Family Law Committee (2010-2012), the Secretary of the Local Government Law Committee and as the co-chair of the Kane County Bar Association’s New Lawyer’s Division (2003-2007). She is currently the Chair of the Rules and Forms Subcommittee of the Family Law Committee and an active member of the Family Law Committee, Civil Practice Committee and Business Law Committee. Carolyn was named the 2006 Outstanding New Lawyer by the Kane County Bar Association. She has appealed many family law cases and appealed a trial court decision and won, establishing favorable law affecting all of the municipalities in the State.  Carolyn has served as an advisor to the Illinois Municipal League on issues related to that case.

Mark D. Brent

022Mark D. Brent is a native of Aurora. He graduated with honors (Phi Beta Kappa) from the University of Illinois in 1988 and the University of Illinois College of Law in 1991. Mark spent several years doing major tort and insurance litigation with Williams and Montgomery in Chicago. He began his focus on Domestic Relations and Family Law in 1997 in Aurora. Mark was a partner in the firm of Goldsmith, Thelin, Dickson and Brown until 2002, at which time he established The Law Office of Mark D. Brent. The Drendel and Jansons Law Group and The Law Office of Mark D. Brent merged on December 1, 2009.

Mark is a member of the Illinois State Bar AssociationKane County Bar AssociationDu Page County Bar Association, and Kendall County Bar Association. He has twice been the Chair of the Kane County Bar Association’s Solo and Small Firm Committee. He is a member of the Kane County Bar Association’s Family Law Committee. He has been admitted to practice in front of all Illinois State Courts, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, and has been granted temporary (pro hac vice) admission to practice in several states.

Mark has several publications to his credit. Among the publications is a book aimed at attorneys to which he contributed as a co-author: Strategies for Family Law in Illinois: Leading Lawyers on Leveraging Alternative Dispute Resolution, Negotiating Alimony and Child Support, and Managing Client Expectations (Inside the Minds) [Paperback] by Aspatore / West Publishing. Mark also published a practical, plain-language guide and introduction to the complicated issue of divorce in Illinois: Divorce Proceedings in Illinois: What You Need to Know [Paperback] by Aspatore / West Publishing.

Mark has always been a trial attorney, and is available to litigate any sort of matter for the firm’s clients. The focus of his practice, however, is on Family Law and Domestic Relations. He is an active member of the family law Bar in Kane, Kendall, Du Page, Will and DeKalb counties. He also takes cases outside this region, and has been retained in divorce cases out of the State of Illinois.

A former Eagle Scout, Mark is active in Scouting, the outdoors, and has coached football for the Aurora Superstars and the West Aurora School District. He and his sons reside in Aurora.

Roman J. Seckel

082Roman J. Seckel was born in Appleton, Wisconsin, in August of 1979.  He is a 2002 graduate of St. Norbert College, summa cum laude, where he was awarded the Rev. Robert Cornell Excellence in Political Science Award.  Roman was also a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity.  He graduated from The John Marshall Law School, cum laude, in 2005 and was a Quarter-Finalist in the Dominick L. Gabrielli National Family Law Moot Court Competition. He interned with Illinois State Senator, Peter Fitzgerald, in 2003.  He is admitted to practice in front of all Illinois State Courts and was admitted to practice in the State of Wisconsin in 2006.

Roman is a member of the Kane County Bar Association,Illinois State Bar Association and the Wisconsin Bar Association. Roman has become a frequent lecturer at Kane County Bar Association Continuing Legal Education seminars and has lectured for the Chicago Bar Association.  Roman won the 2007 Illinois State Bar Association Lincoln Writing Award and has written a number of articles for the Illinois Bar Journal.  Roman Seckel’s practice areas include family law, municipal law, real estate, general civil litigation, collection and corporate and business planning.
